The origins and definitions of piatella

Piatella (or piatela) is a hashish of Spanish origin, developed in the Catalan capital: Barcelona. With the rise of Cannabis Social Clubs, which have been legal for several years, the city has become one of the hubs of cannabis cultivationin Europe.
It was in one of these iconic clubs, Uncle's Farm, that piatella was born. Its creation is attributed to a man named ZIO, who became known as "Don Piatella."

 

You'll probably think that this nickname has something more Italian than Spanish about it, and you'll likely be right. “Don” is a clearly Italian title, while the name “piatella” comes from the Italian word piatto, which means “flat”.

 

Although this hash was created in Barcelona, ​​its name suggests that its creator might be of Italian origin.

 

In any case, piatella is not, strictly speaking, a new type of hash, but a curing technique applied to full melt hash. It's a specific maturation method that aims to enhance the aromatic qualities and texture of the final product.

 

 

Characteristics: Flavors and texture

The first characteristic of Piatella is, of course, its purity. It is created from the highest quality hash possible, exclusively from premium full melt.

 

The second characteristic is its taste and flavor. Once extracted, this exceptional hash is cured, meaning it undergoes a maturation period. This process enhances its aromatic profile: the terpenes and flavonoids, present in large quantities, can then fully reveal the richness and complexity of their flavors.
Naturally, the final taste of Piatella depends directly on the full melt used, and therefore on the flowers selected for its production.

 

Finally, the third major characteristic is its texture. The refining of the full melt gives it a soft, malleable consistency, almost like jelly or butter. A surprisingly pleasant texture to handle, which has become one of the distinctive markers of piatella.

What changes with the piatella?

The curing technique does not alter, or only very slightly alters, the chemical structure or cannabinoid content of the hash used before its transformation into piatella. The potency and type of sensations experienced will therefore remain broadly similar to those of the original hash before curing.

In contrast, the maturation of the piatella significantly alters the consumption experience : it makes it softer, rounder, and more refined. This evolution of the aromatic profile and texture can thus influence the overall impression, offering a more subtle and harmonious tasting experience.

Preparing the piatella

• A vacuum sealer + a bag
• An airtight jar
• A refrigerator set between 4 and 10 degrees

Step 1: Obtain full melt hash

 

 

Full melt hash, sometimes called 6-star hash, owes its name to its main characteristic: both visually and to the touch, this high-quality resin doesn't have the grainy or foamy appearance found in many other types of hash. As its name suggests, this hash looks completely melted.

 

It can be extracted from fresh or frozen flowers, using either dry extraction or ice water extraction. Regardless of the method chosen, full melt hash remains a premium product that requires meticulous attention.

 

It's a rare and expensive product because it's difficult to obtain, even with industrial processes.
Therefore, if you want to make your own piatella, we advise you tobuy your full melt hash directly.

Step 2: Place the full melt hash under vacuum

 

 

For this step, you will need a vacuum sealer. Simply place your hash in a suitable bag, then put it in the machine to remove the air.

 

Once the operation is complete, you obtain a hash perfectly conditioned for curing.

Step 3: Mature the hash in the refrigerator

 

 

Next, place your vacuum-sealed hash in an additional airtight container, such as a glass jar, and then refrigerate it, ideally between 4 and 10 degrees Celsius. Curing typically takes between 1 and 3 months.

How do I know when my piatella is ready?

To determine if your piatella is ready, nothing truly replaces experience. But if it's your first time, you can rely on a few signs.

 

Once all these characteristics are met, all that remains is to wait another week to be absolutely sure:

 

• The hash has a matte and uniform appearance : no marbling, no lighter or darker areas, and no shiny areas.
• There is no more fog or micro-droplets of condensation on the walls of the bag.
• When touchedthrough the bag, the texture should be compact and solid, without being as hard as stone.
