THV: the new cannabinoid derived from THCV

cannabis leaf THV

Today, we'd like to introduce you to one of our newest additions to our catalog of CBD-derived products: THV!

Spoiler alert: it's a new cannabinoid different from THCV and THV-10. Wondering what it is? Here's a detailed presentation of THV.

What is THV?

THV is a novelty straight out of our laboratories. For them, the product is called THV2. It's a new synthetic cannabinoid. As its name suggests, it is closely related to THCV, tetrahydrocannabivarin, but is not naturally produced by hemp or cannabis plants.

For the moment, we can't reveal much more about our new secret weapon; suffice it to say that it's a new cannabinoid specially designed for thrill-seekers and maximum relaxation.

Close to THCV, but what is THCV?

THCV is a minor cannabinoid produced naturally by cannabis flowers. Structurally very similar to THC, it has been identified since the 1970s.

In 2024, THCV was freely available on the market and, alongside THCP and HHCPO, enjoyed a certain popularity. But all these cannabinoids were totally banned in June 2024. Initially, THCV was totally banned, but the ASNM had to change its mind after an appeal was announced by associations of CBD professionals such as the Association Française des Producteurs de Cannabinoïdes (AFPC), the Union des Industriels pour la valorisation des extraits de chanvre (UIVEC) and the Union Des Professionnels Du CBD (UPCBD). The latter pointed out that THCV was naturally present in CBD flowers, making a total ban incoherent. Today, THCV is accepted in the same way as THC, subject to a maximum concentration of 0.3%.

THV-2 has comparable effects to THCV

As we've said, the effects of THV are very similar to those of THCV. Like THCV, its effect varies greatly according to dosage.

At low doses, THV produces :

  • A feeling of mental clarity, with little or no euphoria.
  • A stimulating effect. It creates an energy and creativity boost.
  • A mild anxiolytic effect, sometimes felt as relaxing without causing sedation.

At higher doses, THV can produce a high, accompanied by a feeling of euphoria, but this is rapid and short-lived: it provides a lower high than THC, as well as less lucidity.

THV and THV-N10: two different molecules

If you're one of CBDOO's regular customers, you probably know that we had THV-N10 for some time. But it was banned in several of the European countries we supply, forcing us to stop marketing it.

THV-N10 is a synthetic molecule derived from 10-OH-HHC, itself a hydrogenated derivative of THC. This chemical modification gives THV-N10 a psychoactive potential similar to that of THC, yet more potent than HHC.

THV2 vs THV-N10

As you can see, THV-N10 was designed to replace HHC or THC, while our new THV is more like a new THCV. It's therefore less potent and less psychoactive, but it's also known for not having the risks of a "bad trip". To sum up:

  • THV is less psychoactive than THV-N10.
  • THV produces a mental boost and clarity. THV-N10 produces relaxation and sedation.
  • THV does not cause bad trips, nor does it increase stress levels.

All in all, the THV2 is best suited to an active day. It's perfect for creative work requiring concentration. THV-N10, like 10-OH-HHC, lends itself better to moments of calm, relaxation and unwinding.

THV vs THC

THV is quite different from THC. THC is known for its powerful sedative and psychoactive effects, which can lead to undesirable side effects (stress, paranoia, drowsiness...). It is also known to induce a strong sensation of hunger.

THV, unlike THC, produces a smooth, balanced high. It eliminates the risk of bad trips. What's more, unlike THC, it doesn't stimulate the appetite. On the contrary, it gives you a boost of energy and creativity, without causing drowsiness.

THV vs CBD

CBD is the star molecule of well-being. It offers a wide range of benefits, including sleep aid, anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving activity, as well as regulating states of stress and anxiety.

THV-2, on the other hand, has quite different effects from CBD:

  • It boosts energy
  • It has a slight, short-lived high.
  • It also helps regulate stress and anxiety.

In short, the biggest difference between CBD and THV is that the former will tend to produce a state of relaxation, conducive to unwinding, while the latter, by freeing you from stress and inducing an active state, will be more suited to creative or studious activities.

THV mechanism of action

Like other known cannabinoids, THV acts on the endocannabinoid system. It interacts mainly with CB1 and CB2 receptors, but with a more moderate affinity than THC.

This explains its balanced potency. By acting on these receptors in a more subtle way, its effects induce a state of well-being and mental clarity, rather than the intense euphoria and disorientation that THC can produce.

Its unique molecular structure enables it to reproduce some of THCV's effects, such as boosting energy and creativity, while avoiding the risk of nervousness or too pronounced a high.

THV: what is the legal status of this new cannabinoid?

As with all new cannabinoids, THV meets the prerequisites for sale on the French and European markets.

1: It contains less than 0.3% THV and THCV.
2: THV is not a THC-related molecule, like THCV, THCP or THCJD. As such, it is totally legal, just as THV-n10 is today.

So, until further notice, THV is totally legal in France and Europe.

What is cannabis? Cannabis is a plant native to Central and South Asia. Plants rich in fiber and low in Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC*) are called "hemp" or "agricultural hemp", while THC-rich varieties are called "Indian hemp" or cannabis. "CBG9" is the name of a new molecule that has been attracting increasing attention since the banning of CBD derivatives from the Benzochromene group; THCP, HHCPO and Other THCJD. Cannabigerol-9, not to be confused with CB9, is a recently-discovered natural secondary cannabinoid which [...].

You've probably already heard of it. After taking the French market by storm, HHC was banned by the Agence nationale de sécurité du médicament et des produits de santé (ANSM). You may be wondering what HHC is, what its history is, what its effects are, and why it has been banned.
