CBD and Yoga: a combined action to find calm

cbd and yoga

Combining CBD and yoga may seem strange. Yet the two share many common features. Starting with relaxation.

CBD consumers know all too well that one of its benefits is to promote relaxation. For yoga practitioners, relaxation is an integral part of the discipline. It is a tool to help achieve harmony between body and mind.

Can consuming CBD help you find relaxation during yoga exercise and help you find your balance? We explain!

Yoga and CBD in the early days of civilization

We've talked about the many similarities between yoga and hemp, and their age-old use is just one of them.

As you may know, yoga is a practice derived from Indian philosophy, the earliest written traces of which date back over 5,000 years. This philosophy is based on a number of rules, precepts and spiritual, mental and physical practices, grouped together into paths or schools. All are different, but all aim to liberate the soul from its karma, to end the cycles of reincarnation and reach Nirvana. Yoga is one of these paths.

CBD is a molecule secreted naturally by the hemp plant. Hemp is probably one of the first plants domesticated by mankind . The earliest trace of it dates back to 26,900/24,000 BC. Hemp was used to make rope. The first traces of its use in medicine date back to three millennia BC. The Chinese Shen Nong, also known as the "Great Diviner", recounts in his pharmacopoeia how the plant was used to treat malaria, rheumatism and as a sedative .

A better quality of life thanks to yoga

The practice of yoga

In its quest for balance, yoga seeks to mobilize the physical, mental and spiritual potential of participants through physical practice, meditation and breathing.

This includes a variety of postures, grouped together under the name "asanas". These postures all aim to strengthen and balance the body, but they also improve flexibility and develop body awareness. Breathing exercises or "pranayama" serve to calm the mind. Conscious breathing helps to regulate the nervous system and increase vitality.

As with many aspects of Hindu philosophy, meditation techniques are an essential component of yoga. Among other things, meditation has been shown to improve cognitive function, memory and metabolic balance[1].

Thus, the physical, respiratory and meditative practices worked on during yoga exercises can enable exercisers to feel better in mind and body. These effects can be considered similar to those felt after a quality sporting activity[2].

The benefits of yoga

Yoga, like sport, reduces levels of the stress hormone cortisol, improving mood, quality of life and psychological well-being , while regulating sleep disorders. The postures adopted during yoga can also relieve back pain. They relax tense muscles and correct bad postures by strengthening the practitioner's back muscles. This activity can therefore be a remedy for chronic back pain[3].

CBD and therapeutic effects

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a molecule naturally secreted by hemp and cannabis, which are one and the same plant. The only difference between the two is their THC content. Cannabis has a THC level of over 0.3%, while hemp contains less than 0.3% THC. Hemp is legal and cannabis is not, because THC is responsible for addictive effects and a number of deleterious effects. Hemp, which contains mostly CBD and little THC, has no psychotropic or addictive effects, whether in flower, resin or other form.

However, CBD acts on the central nervous system. Its interactions with certain receptors of the endocannabinoid system regulate various bodily functions. These interactions are still poorly defined and understood, but some studies suggest that CBD may have a number of health benefits, such as reducing stress, anxiety , mood and sleep disorders.

In so doing, it can help prevent or relieve depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder or post-traumatic stress disorder, all of which are linked to stress and anxiety.

CBD and yoga: similar effects

As you can see, the results of CBD consumption and yoga practice can complement and even reinforce each other. Together, they can improve your health, well-being and quality of life.

Both have been practiced since the dawn of time and are renowned for :

Both are therefore moving in the same direction, and given that we're not talking about mathematics, there's no reason why the accumulation of relaxing practices should make for less relaxation!

If there's no danger, why not give it a try?

As we've seen, the practice of yoga and the consumption of CBD share many points in common. The last of these being the absence of danger.

Indeed, while the therapeutic effects of both practices remain debated, it's widely accepted that they represent no danger to health. Of course, there are certain contraindications: you shouldn't take CBD during pregnancy, just as you shouldn't practice yoga if you have a sprained ankle. But, if you're prone to insomnia, chronic pain or too much stress, CBD and yoga can really help you, and we can't recommend you enough!
