The endocannabinoid system is made up of a set of receptors found throughout humans and mammals, mainly in the central nervous system. Two receptors that are particularly receptive to cannabinoids are CB1 and CB2. CB1s, which are the most numerous, are found in particular in certain areas of the organs of sexual reproduction[1].
Although studies on cannabidiol (CBD), a molecule derived from the hemp plant in the same way as THC*, and its impact on the endocannabinoid system are still underway, it is accepted that CBD has broad and varied effects through its interaction with these receptors, particularly CB1[2]. Since these receptors are found in the reproductive organs of both men and women, studies have shown that CBD users enjoy an improved sex life.
According to an American study conducted between March 2016 and February 2017 in the form of a questionnaire, 34% of the 373 women surveyed reported feeling an increase in libido and achieving more intense and faster orgasms, after using marijuana[3].
Similarly, in a study of 5398 Americans, 9% of whom reported using CBD before having sex, 31% of men and 33% of women experienced improved orgasm[4].
Finally, a study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine demonstrates the role of the endocannabinoid system in sexual function[5], and therefore also in its dysfunction, ranging from loss of libido to erectile dysfunction and the pain felt by some women during intercourse (dyspareunia). Similarly, studies have also shown the effect of CBD on women suffering from painful periods.
Numerous studies show that CBD has anxiolytic and anti-inflammatory properties[6].
Since one of the factors at the root of sexual dysfunction is often stress or pain, CBD can have a positive impact by reducing stress and pain. What's more, since the stress of everyday life reduces libido or is at the root of certain erectile dysfunctions (performance stress in men), it's obvious that the relaxation induced by taking CBD and its effect on anxiety can only improve intimacy!
Erectile dysfunction is caused by impaired blood flow and tissue damage. These disorders are often more prevalent with aging:
As men age, they produce dioxin, a toxin that plays a major role in erectile dysfunction. According to a recent study, CBD reduces this toxin in the body[7].
Cannabidiol or CBD is a natural molecule with no side effects. It could therefore be an additional option before attempting therapy with a sex therapist or other medication. Trying it to improve your sex life is becoming an increasingly popular choice. don't forget to ask a doctor's advice if you have any particular pathologies and/or are taking any medication.
Lubricating CBD gels are available for intimate use, but their effectiveness has not been scientifically proven. We recommend the use of CBD in the form of oil to be placed under the tongue, passing the molecule directly into the bloodstream and thus communicating with all endocannabinoid receptors, including those present in the brain.
Simply take a few drops of cannabidiol oil directly under the tongue, for rapid and effective assimilation. Even though there's no risk of overdosing with CBD, we advise you to start with the lowest CBD dose, as each person reacts differently to the substance, and then gradually increase the dose until you feel relief.
