Moonrock: where does it come from and what is it?

The name moonrock comes from its appearance. It's a product that first appeared in the United States, probably in California, before the 2010s. As you may know, California, the birthplace of Cali weed strains, has a long tradition of counter-culture, particularly when it comes to marijuana. Indeed, the first moonrocks to be made were not CBD moonrocks, but cannabis moonrocks.

Moonrock is a concentrate of power. Basically, it's a cannabis flower infused with cannabis oil, then rolled in pollen or kief.

We don't know who the original creators of moonrock were. They were probably developed by a few enthusiasts looking to make the most powerful product possible. These moonstones probably remained underground creations until they were brought to the fore in the 2010s by Kurupt. A member of Death Row Records alongside Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and 2pac in his day, the rapper launched his own brand of Moonrocks under the name Kurupt's Moonrock. In doing so, he made a major contribution to the success of Moonrocks in the U.S. and internationally in the years that followed.

How are moonrocks made?

It didn't take long for this popularity to reach European shores, but in France, since cannabis is banned, the process is carried out entirely with CBD-based products. At the heart of moonrock is always a CBD flower, but not just any flower. It's important that every component of the moonrock is of the highest possible quality, so that the end result achieves the highest possible concentration of CBD.

High-quality flowers are selected and infused in a CBD concentrate. So far, it's pretty much the same process as THCN products, except that the latter uses a CBN concentrate rather than CBD.

In most cases, once infused, the flower becomes soft and sticky, and is then rolled in kief: a dust of trichomes and CBD resin. For consumers using a grinder fitted with a sieve, it's the green/brown dust that falls into the last compartment.

In any case, as you'd expect, the result is simply bluffing potency, reaching over 80% CBD! And it also contains all the other minor cannabinoids naturally present in hemp. Moonrock vs icerocks: what's the difference?

With moonrock gaining in popularity with consumers, many manufacturers have tried to create their own moonrocks, using several varieties of flowers, several types of isolates and concentrates for infusion, such as Rosin, and several types of product for the final coating.

This explains why, today, there are even more different moonrocks than there are varieties of cbd flowers. By varying each of the elements, each variety of moonrock has a different taste, a different outer color, but also a different inner texture: some are crystallized, others are almost liquid...

The visible difference between moonrock andicerock is in the final stage: the coating. Kief-coated moonrock has a greenish-brown color, sometimes tending towards gold, whereas theicerock has a very white, almost frosted color. This is because the icerock are rolled in pure CBD isolate. In other words, CBD and nothing but CBD. That's whyicerock is particularly potent.

In terms of consumption, moonrock and icerock , the latter are slightly more potent, but also slightly less tasty, as the CBD isolate is more concentrated than kief but doesn't really taste like it.

Can we grind the moonrock?

In most cases, the answer to this question is no. This is because the vast majority of moonrocks have an oil-laden core that makes them almost sticky. If you try to grind it, you're going to foul your grinder more than anything else, and then you'll have to scrape the teeth to get your moonrock back.

And even if you find moon rock with a hard core, using the grinder you risk losing the outer layer, which would be a real shame.

Instead, we suggest you use your hands to gently cut them, or even better, use a small scissor, like a manicure scissor, making sure it's clean first of course.

 

How do you consume moonrock? Can you smoke it?

Theoretically, moonrock can be smoked, with some people recommending the use of a "bong", i.e. a water pipe, as well as other exceptional products such as Ice-o-lator. However, we categorically advise against this, as it is an illegal practice. In fact, we'd like to remind you that CBD smoking is forbidden in France, as combustion could be dangerous to your health.

Instead, we recommend using a spray bottle. This practice has several advantages:

It doesn't require the moonrock to be toasted: simply separate a piece from your moorock and place it in the heating chamber. If your vaporizer has a large enough chamber, you can even put the whole moonrock directly into the chamber.

You can enjoy the full effects of moonrock: convection and conduction heating modes are far less aggressive than combustion, heating moonrock to the precise point of evaporation of terpenes and cannabinoids without damaging them, unlike combustion.
