CBN and H3CBN: what are they?

CBN is a somewhat unique cannabinoid; unlike other cannabinoids, it is not synthesized by hemp and cannabis. Instead, it is derived from the breakdown of THC. When THC is exposed to light (UV), heat, and air, a chemical reaction occurs: decarboxylationboxreactionboxthat synthesizes CBN.

 

It is therefore a completely natural molecule, but its natural concentration is around 1%. Synthesis is necessary to achieve higher concentrations such as that of our 34% CBN Hash.

 

H3CBN is similar to H4CBD in that they are both cannabinoids with added hydrogen atoms. This results in a more stable molecule, less prone to natural changes like THC. This form stimulates the endocannabinoid system in a different way. The hydrogenation process is achieved through chemical manipulations performed in a laboratory using CBN, making H3CBN a semi-synthetic cannabinoid.

 

Opposite effects

The effect of CBN is not very different from that of CBD. Like CBD, it is non-psychoactive and does not appear to be addictive or habit-forming. However, it seems to have calming and relaxing effects. Like THC, it also appears to stimulate appetite and create a feeling of hunger.

 

It is also said to have a powerful effect on sleep, facilitating falling asleep and helping to achieve deep and restorative sleep, which sometimes earns it the name "sleep cannabinoid".

 

The hydrogenated form of CBN has a radically different effect. Unlike CBN, H3CBN seems to produce a feeling of alertness and increased energy. Users report experiencing improved concentration accompanied by a kind of mental clarity.

 

If CBN is indeed the cannabinoid associated with sleep, then H3CBN could be considered the one associated with wakefulness. However, be aware that H3CBN was developed as an alternative to HHC and appears to be just as psychoactive, producing a high and a feeling of euphoria.

A different action

As mentioned, the hydrogen molecules added to CBN change its action on the endocannabinoid system.

 

In fact, CBN has a structure quite similar to CBD, but their actions are not the same. They both act on the CB1 receptor, but CBN also acts on the CB2 receptor, like THC, which gives it a more effective sedative effect than CBD.

 

Conversely, H3CBN acts primarily on CB1 receptors, but it also has an effect on CB2 receptors, which gives it this soaring and relaxing effect.

H3CBN and H4CBD: two completely different hydrogenated versions

As mentioned, H3CBN and H4CBD are both hydrogenated forms. However, CBD and CBN are quite similar in their effects, which is no longer the case after hydrogenation.

 

Unlike H3CBN,H4CBD induces a profound sense of calm and deep relaxation. It does not produce euphoria, but rather a greater feeling of release and letting go. Similarly, H4CBD does not produce a "high" and does not appear to have any psychotropic effects.

 

In short, H4CBD is similar to CBD, but in a more potent version.H3CBN behaves in the opposite way; being developed to replace HHC, it would be closer to a sativa strain, if we were to find an example.

Legality and new compounds
