How to consume CBD flowers

CBD flowers are CBD's flagship product. A majority of consumers choose them to access the raw, natural product.

CBD flower will of course include all hemp's cannabinoids (CBD, THC, CBN, CBG, CBC and CBDV), terpenes*, flavonoids* and other essential vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B6, B9 and E).

Cannabidiol flowers (CBD for short) can be consumed by infusion, inhalation (vaping), smoking (not recommended and forbidden) or incorporation into cooking recipes (not covered in this article). Each of these methods of consumption has its own advantages and disadvantages, which we will explain in greater detail below.

* Terpenes are aromatic molecules naturally produced by plants.

* Flavonoids are substances from the polyphenol family, renowned for their antioxidant properties.

Smoking CBD flowers (prohibited and not recommended)

Smoking consists in burning a substance (it can be tobacco, resin or CBD) in order to inhale the gases produced by its combustion. Important note: whatever the plant/substance used, burning it will produce harmful toxins, tars and other harmful substances. [1]

Although it is forbidden to smoke CBD flowers, several audiences are turning to this mode of consumption: people who like weed but not its effects (red eyes, dry mouth, etc....)

People who have smoked too much cannabis and can no longer tolerate THC, or those who want to smoke cannabis without getting high , just to relax.

  • Start of effects As with vaporization, the effects are felt very quickly: around 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Effect duration Effects last up to 3 hours.
  • Efficacy According to NORML: "It destroys almost half (45%) of the plant's active ingredients"[1].

> Due to the harmful substances produced by combustion and the fact that a large proportion of the cannabinoids are destroyed, we recommend vaporizing the flowers.

THC warning:

We do not advertise THC. We do not recommend its use. We only quote scientific studies.

Vaporizing CBD flowers

Vaporization is one of the most effective ways of consuming cannabinoids, including CBD. And it's the best way to consume your CBD flowers.

Vaporization is a method of heating (not burning) the compounds in the hemp plant. The substances are heated to between 160 and 180 degrees (cf. boiling point table) to transform them into steam.

Once these compounds are transformed into vapor, you can inhale the cannabinoids, including CBD.

Fast-acting effects

  • Onset of effects Once inhaled, CBD vapor enters the lungs, where it is absorbed, before reaching the bloodstream and ultimately the endocannabinoid system. The process is very rapid, and the effects of vaporized CBD can be felt in just 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Effect duration Effects last up to 3 hours.

Vaporized CBD is very effective

Vaporization allows a significant proportion(up to 56%) of CBD to enter the bloodstream: this is known as bioavailability.

This should be seen in the context of the 6-20% bioavailability of ingested CBD.

Thanks to a 2009 study[2], we have produced a summary table of CBD's efficacy according to its mode of administration.

Practical aspects of vape :

This method of consumption is becoming increasingly democratic, thanks to a fall in the price of devices, including salon devices (such as the famous Volcano brand), but also to the emergence of portable vaporizers, such as pen vaporizers, which are both affordable and practical.

Because there is no combustion, vaping is considered safe for health. A 2016 clinical study[3] on the "vaporization of medical cannabis and CBD" supports this view, stating that consuming Cannabidiol by vaporization is a "safe and effective " method of consumption .

User reviews

Users report a cannabis-like mouthfeel and citrus scents, depending on the terpenes present. A much more refined, purer taste than firecracker (no charred taste).

Brewing CBD flowers

hemp tea, CBD infusion

This method is recommended for those who wish to enjoy the benefits of CBD at night with minor disturbances.

  • Start of effects The first benefits are felt after an hour or an hour and a half.
  • Efficacy Bioavailability is low, around 10% to 20%.
  • Duration of effects Duration of effects: The effects are less significant because the molecule has to pass through the entire digestive system.

On the other hand, the effects are felt for longer: up to 7 hours when ingested (compared to a maximum of 3 hours when taken via the respiratory tract), as the molecule is broken down slowly during digestion.

Practical aspects, preparing your infusion / herbal tea :

  1. CBD flower heads should be finely chopped (but not pulverized) using a grinder, for example.
  2. Insert your chopped CBD mixture into a filter.
  3. Cannabinoids, and therefore CBD, are not water-soluble: it does not dissolve in water. It needs a fatty substance (fat-soluble). This can be milk (preferably whole), butter or even oil, depending on your preference. You can macerate the chopped/concassed CBD in the filter within the fat for 30 minutes to an hour, or heat it over low heat for 15 to 30 minutes.
  4. Taste (and, if necessary, store the remaining fat in the refrigerator).
