How to consume CBD flowers

Flowers are CBD's flagship product. Most consumers choose them in order to access the raw, natural product.

CBD flower will naturally contain all of the cannabinoids found in hemp (CBD, THC, CBN, CBG, CBC, and CBDV), terpenes, flavonoids, and other essential vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B6, B9, and E).

Cannabidiol (CBD) flowers can be consumed in infusions, inhaled (vaping), smoked (not recommended and prohibited), or incorporated into recipes (not covered in this article). Each of these methods of consumption has advantages and disadvantages, which we will outline below.

* Terpenes are aromatic molecules naturally produced by plants.

* Flavonoids are substances from the polyphenol family, renowned for their antioxidant properties.

Why consume CBD flowers?

Most CBD consumers are primarily looking for a relaxing effect. Cannabidiol (CBD) is becoming increasingly popular with those seeking a natural alternative to enhance their well-being. Unlike THC, CBD is non-psychoactive, non-addictive and offers numerous therapeutic benefits.

In addition to promoting relaxation,CBD can also be a valuable aid in several cases:

Relief from chronic pain

CBD has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help relieve joint pain, muscle tension and some neuropathic pain such as fibromyalgia.

Action on inflammatory diseases

Thanks to its anti-inflammatory effect, CBD can have a positive effect on certain chronic and autoimmune conditions such as rheumatism, osteoarthritis and Crohn's disease.

Relaxing, anti-stress effect

CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, promoting a state of deep relaxation. It can help reduce stress, anxiety and even relieve migraines by relieving pressure.

Smoking CBD flowers

Before we begin, we would like to remind you that smoking CBD is prohibited by law. Smoking involves burning a substance(such as tobacco, resin, or CBD) in order to inhale the gases produced by its combustion. Important note: regardless of the plant/substance used, burning it will produce harmful toxins, tar, and other harmful substances. [1]

Although smoking CBD flowers is prohibited, several groups of people are turning to this method of consumption: people who like weed but not its effects (red eyes, dry mouth, etc.).

People who have smoked too much cannabis and can no longer tolerate THC, or those who want to smoke cannabis without getting high , just to relax.

  • Onset of effects: As with vaporization, the effects are felt very quickly: around 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Duration of effects: Effects last up to 3 hours.
  • Effectiveness: Unfortunately, a large proportion of the active ingredients are destroyed during combustion. According to some researchers: "During the pyrolysis (combustion) of dry cannabis at high temperatures, 23% to 30% of CBD is lost through pyrolysis, and 40% to 50% is lost in secondhand smoke." [1]

Due to the harmful substances produced by combustion and the fact that a significant portion of the cannabinoids are destroyed, we recommend consuming the flowers by vaporization.

THC warning:

We do not advertise THC. We do not recommend its use. We only quote scientific studies.

Vaporizing CBD flowers

Vaporization is one of the most effective ways of consuming cannabinoids, including CBD. And it's the best way to consume your CBD flowers.

Vaporization is a method that involves heating (not burning) the compounds in the hemp plant. The substances are heated to between 160 and 180 degrees to turn them into vapor.

Once these compounds are transformed into vapor, you can inhale the cannabinoids, including CBD.

Rapid effects of CBD vaporization

  • Onset of effects: Once inhaled, CBD vapor enters the lungs where it is absorbed and then reaches the bloodstream and ultimately the endocannabinoid system. The process is very fast, and the effects of vaporized CBD are felt quickly, in just 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Duration of effects: Effects last up to 3 hours.

The effectiveness of vaporizing CBD

Vaporization allows a significant portion (up to 56%) of CBD to enter the bloodstream: this is referred to as bioavailability.

This should be put into perspective with the 6 to 20% bioavailability for ingested CBD.

Thanks to a 2009 study[2], we have produced a summary table of CBD's efficacy according to its mode of administration.

Practical aspects of vape

This method of consumption is becoming increasingly democratic, thanks to a fall in the price of devices, including salon devices (such as the famous Volcano brand), but also to the emergence of portable vaporizers, such as pen vaporizers, which are both affordable and practical.

Because there is no combustion, vaping is considered safe for health. A 2016 clinical study[3] on the "vaporization of medical cannabis and CBD" supports this view, stating that consuming Cannabidiol by vaporization is a "safe and effective " method of consumption .

User reviews

Users report a cannabis-like mouthfeel and citrus scents, depending on the terpenes present. A much more refined, purer taste than firecracker (no charred taste).

Brewing CBD flowers

hemp tea, CBD infusion

Why use CBD in infusions

This method is recommended for those who wish to take advantage of the benefits of CBD to improve the quality of their sleep. Certain varieties of CBD flowers are rich in myrcene and linalool, two terpenes with soothing effects that promote faster sleep onset and restful sleep. What's more, thanks to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, CBD can help calm the pain and stress that can cause insomnia.

  • Onset of effects: The first benefits are felt after an hour or an hour and a half.
  • Effectiveness: Bioavailability is low, in the range of 10% to 20%.
  • Duration of effects: The effects are less significant because the molecule has to pass through the entire digestive system.

On the other hand, the effects are felt for longer: up to 7 hours when ingested (compared to a maximum of 3 hours when taken via the respiratory tract), as the molecule is broken down slowly during digestion.

Practical aspects, preparing your infusion / herbal tea

  1. CBD flower heads should be finely chopped (but not pulverized) using a grinder, for example.
  2. Insert your chopped CBD mixture into a filter.
  3. Cannabinoids, and therefore CBD, are not water-soluble. It needs a fatty substance (liposoluble). This can be milk (preferably whole), butter or even oil, depending on your preference. You can macerate the chopped/concassed CBD in the filter within the fat for 30 minutes to an hour, or heat it over low heat for 15 to 30 minutes.
  4. Taste (and, if necessary, store the remaining fat in the refrigerator).
