Since its authorization in France on 2018, CBD has quickly become a mainstream consumer product. With the free sale of these products in all their forms, many are legitimately wondering about the benefits andrisks associated with regular cannabidiol (CBD) consumption.
You'll find answers to all your questions in this article!
To begin with, CBD has been legal for almost 6 years, because the WHO (World Health Organization) and the ANMS (Agence nationale de sécurité du médicament et des produits de santé) have ruled that " the intake of cannabidiol is not harmful to health and is generally well tolerated ". What's more, unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is neither addictive nor dependent.
So, in itself, CBD isn't dangerous, but it is an active substance, so it can have certain undesirable effects.
Like everything else, from water to sunlight to all foods, some people can be intolerant to CBD and develop an allergy.
But some people can also be allergic to the terpenes (aromatic molecules) or flavonoids (pigments) contained in flowers.
If you are allergic, several symptoms may appear depending on your consumption pattern.
In the most serious cases, the allergy can lead to anaphylactic shock, causing breathing difficulties, malaise and even loss of consciousness. In such a case, you'll need to call the emergency services or go to the emergency room as soon as possible.
Although this last point may seem particularly worrying, it should be borne in mind that these symptoms are common to all products, and cases of anaphylactic shock in general are very rare (around 5,000 a year in France), and we have not found any cases of anaphylactic shock caused by CBD. Nevertheless, if you have any doubts or experience any of the above symptoms, don't hesitate to seek medical advice.
The term "drug interaction" refers to the interaction that can occur between two active substances, reducing the efficacy of each molecule or leading to undesirable effects.
This is typically what happens when you combine alcohol and medication.
As far as CBD is concerned, it has no intoxicating or psychostimulant effect, so there's no risk there. The major risk would be that CBD consumption would reduce the efficacy of any treatment you're taking at the same time. This is particularly true of heavy treatments for liver failure, epilepsy or immunosuppressive therapy.
That's why it's strongly recommended that you seek medical advice before taking cbd if you're undergoing any of these treatments.
Medical claims refer to the fact of attributing medical virtues to a product that does not possess any. It's not a danger directly linked to CBD consumption, but cbd consumption is part of the problem. In France, CBD has no recognized medicinal virtues, so it is illegal and false to consider that CBD can replace any treatment.
We repeat, CBD is not a medicine, and cannot and should not replace any medication. If you think CBD can help you solve a problem(appetite, stress...), it's essential to talk to a competent medical staff so that they can direct you towards the best solution for you.
Fortunately not. CBD, even in high doses, has no serious repercussions. In fact, some studies have shown that the effect of CBD is subject to a kind of bell effect or plateau effect, which can vary depending on the individual and the route of consumption. But what this means in practice is that these effects can develop up to a certain point, beyond which further CBD consumption will no longer increase its effect on the body.
In addition to the dose consumed, the method of consumption can also represent a risk for the consumer. In the case of combustion consumption, cbd taken in this way entails risks for the lungs, even more so when smoked with tobacco.
Despite this, consuming high doses of cbd can lead to undesirable effects, the most common of which are :
Our conclusion on the dangers of CBD consumption
In line with the position of the various organizations charged with protecting common health, we conclude by reiterating that CBD is a safe product and can be consumed without danger. Its various effects look promising and could greatly improve the lives of many elderly people, adults and animals.
Nevertheless, as with any product, you need to observe a certain moderation and take into account your own state of health. Indeed, if you enjoy consuming any product loaded with active ingredients such as garlic, ginger, licorice, caffeine and even honey, in high doses over a prolonged period, you'll soon realize that it's not safe for your health either, and even more so if you're subject to any contraindications.
