How to choose your CBD flowers

Choosing CBD flowers

Many people order cannabidiol products online, but unfortunately the majority of them don't really know what they're buying.

How to choose your CBD flowers, in this first blog post, we'll give you several tips on how to choose your cannabis flowers. 100% legal cannabidioland, at the same time, we'll tell you about some unscrupulous practices applied to your favorite products. (Warning: this article won't be to everyone's taste!)

Adding terpene to low-odour cannabis flowers

Terpenes are aromatic molecules naturally produced by plants. There are several thousand different terpenes, each with its own characteristic smell. That's why some varieties of CBD cannabis can have a fruity, earthy or even cheesy aroma!

Some varieties produce few terpenes and therefore have little or no odor. Although a strong smell is not always synonymous with quality, some market players do not hesitate to add terpenes to their products. This is to make it look as if the flowers have a naturally exceptional scent when the sachet is opened.

How can I tell whether my flowers have a natural or modified scent?

It's easy to check. Once you've received your order, open the packaging. The scent should be the same as that produced by the flowers when crushed or crumbled. If there's a scent when you open the package, but no aroma when you crush or crumble the flowers, this means they've been in contact with added terpenes and the scent is not natural.

The addition of hemp leaves, stalks and dust

The cannabidiol present in hemp is no longer a secret. However, its concentration varies greatly depending on the part of the plant. Just like sugar in a fruit tree: the sugar concentration is much higher in the fruit than in the leaves or branches. As you can see, CBD concentration is higher in flowers, but almost non-existent in leaves, seeds or branches.

CBD flowers are sold by weight. The addition of these residues increases the weight without providing you with more material.

Chemical process to lower THC levels

Ouch, ouch, ouch... We're tackling a subject that deserves to be highlighted. Today, European legislation authorizes the marketing of hemp with a THC content (the psychoactive molecule considered a narcotic) of less than 0.2%.

Cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) concentrations are positively correlated: if CBD levels rise, so do THC levels (conversely, if CBD levels fall, so do THC levels).

Growers do their utmost to produce plants with a high CBD content while respecting THC limits.

However, a high concentration of cannabidiol creates a risk of exceeding the legal THC limit. It should be pointed out that this limit can vary from country to country: in Switzerland, for example, it is 1% (5 times higher than in France!), while Italian legislation only authorizes 0.6%. This is why some growers are unable to sell their wares outside their own borders: their crops have too high a THC content...

How do they get around this problem?

They lower THC levels using chemical processes that are not clean.. Unfortunately, these chemical actions don't just act on THC, they also lower and destroy all the cannabinoids present in the flowers... and the same goes for our beloved cannabidiol.

The result? A low-quality, polluted product with little or no natural substances...but one that complies with legislation!

Most of these methods are normally used for the sole purpose of extracting and processing cannabis substances, not to reduce the THC content of the flowers! We don't know all the methods used, as we don't endorse this type of process, but we're sharing with you the information that has been provided to us by some unscrupulous players.

One of the most commonly used methods :

Simply bathe the flowers in a solution of ethanol or butane, and the trichomes (resinous residues containing hemp's active ingredients) will dilute in the solvent. As a result, the THC and all the natural substances escape from the final product. This is followed by rinsing and drying. With this technique, the outward appearance of the hemp flowers remains unchanged.

Nice, isn't it? 😉

Our advice? Choose unmodified products with no added terpenes.

It's essential that the CBD flowers you buy comply with all the elements mentioned above, so that they are of the highest possible quality.
