Are you a fan of homemade products? Whether it's for ecological or economic reasons, or simply to be sure of the quality of the products you consume, DIY is your thing?
Good news: the DIY trend is set to conquer the CBD world.
Oil, e-liquid, even cosmetics, in this article we talk about DIY and CBD. Discover the different products you can make and some practical tutorials to get you started!
DIY, an acronym for "do it yourself", is an increasingly popular trend in Europe.
Whether it's for home decoration, clothing or cosmetics, DIY is charming because of its naturalness, its mastery of composition or simply the satisfaction of making your own products.
Before getting to the heart of the matter, let there be no misunderstanding: we're obviously not talking about growing your own CBD flowers.
Although this could be the final form of a CBD-style DIY, we remind you that the cultivation of CBD flowers is very strictly regulated.
Here, we're going to talk about the most popular DIY CBD products, which anyone can make at home:
Yes, it is possible to create your own e-liquid for electronic cigarettes or puffs. Why? Because you can fully customize your smoking experience: taste, strength, smoke... and your CBD content!
To do this, you won't need much:
All e-liquids are "built" from a base of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG), known as the PG/VG base.
It's the main component, accounting for around 90% of the final volume. Neutral, tasteless and nicotine-free, it will above all determine the vaping experience: the thickness of the smoke and the sensation in the throat.
Here's a quick table to get you started:
PG/VG ratio | Results |
70/30 | More hit (throat power), less vapor |
50/50 | Balanced |
30/70 | More steam, softer |
As the name suggests, the flavor determines the taste of the blend you're going to vape. Strawberry, banana, coffee, madeleine, hemp flowers, skunk, Amnesia... As you know, there really are flavors for every taste.
In general, flavoring represents between 5 and 10% of the total e-liquid content. All you need to do is dose according to the desired aromatic intensity.
That's where it gets interesting. In your DIY e-liquid, you can also choose the dose of CBD you're going to put in your blend.
You have a choice: either buy a CBD booster, a ready-made product to mix with your e-liquid, or opt for CBD isolate.
It's a liquid containing CBD as an isolate diluted in PG. Everything's ready to go. The Booster contains a precise dose of CBD: all you have to do is dose according to the booster's concentration and the desired final concentration:
CBD (mg) | Volume (ml) | Concentration (%) |
100 mg | 10 ml | 1% |
200 mg | 10 ml | 2% |
300 mg | 10 ml | 3% |
500 mg | 10 ml | 5% |
1000 mg | 10 ml | 10% |
1000 mg | 30 ml | 3.33% |
1000 mg | 50 ml | 2% |
1500 mg | 50 ml | 3% |
2000 mg | 50 ml | 4% |
Creating your own e-liquid from isolate is easy. All you need is a good balance, and there are only advantages: it's more economical and produces a blend of definite purity.
To create your e-liquid from isolate, start by choosing a base containing more PG than VG, such as 60/40 or 70/30, as CBD isolate dissolves better in PG. The next step is simple:
Having trouble calculating CBD concentration? Here's a little chart for the perfect dosage:
Isolate weight (g) | Total volume (ml) | Total CBD (mg) | Concentration (%) |
0,05 g | 10 ml | 50 mg | 0,5% |
0,10 g | 10 ml | 100 mg | 1% |
0,30 g | 10 ml | 300 mg | 3% |
0,50 g | 10 ml | 500 mg | 5% |
1,00 g | 10 ml | 1000 mg | 10% |
1,00 g | 30 ml | 1000 mg | 3,33% |
1,50 g | 30 ml | 1500 mg | 5% |
2,00 g | 50 ml | 2000 mg | 4% |
2,50 g | 50 ml | 2500 mg | 5% |
Here's a tip: if you want to go faster, you can add CBD isolate directly to a ready-to-use e-liquid purchased in the shops, as long as it contains a sufficient level of PG.
Wondering if it's possible to make your own CBD oil? Good news: it's easy, fast and economical! The method is pretty much the same as for DIY e-liquid.
Creating your own DIY CBD oil is all about taking back control, but there are many other benefits:
The only drawback: by using isolates, you don't benefit from the entourage effect (or "synergy") offered by full spectrum oils. But if you're looking for purity, clarity and simplicity, this is the perfect solution.
Like us, our pets need omegas and supplements that are beneficial to their health. And like us, pets can benefit from the effects of CBD: calming, recovery, stress reduction...
Creating your own CBD oil for pets allows you to:
Pure CBD isolate is non-toxic for dogs, cats, rodents... and even horses. It's a natural asset for their daily well-being.
We're all familiar with the qualities of CBD for ingestion or vaping, but do you also know those of CBD when applied to the skin? Antioxidant, soothing and restorative, it's a perfect addition to your DIY skincare routine.
What CBD can do for your skin:
There are several solutions, and CBD can be used in several forms for DIY: as an isolate, distillate or oil.
But we're going to tell you what to do with isolate. This is the form we prefer because it's easy to dose, stable, totally pure and, to make matters worse, inexpensive.
What's more, it works with the vast majority of bases and formulas.
You can add CBD isolate to :
- A vegetable oil (hemp, jojoba, sweet almond)
- A neutral cream base
- A homemade solid balm (e.g. beeswax + shea butter)
Ingredients:
The procedure is very simple:
The best part is, as we said, it works with just about any cream.
