THCB is the acronym for Tetrahydrocannabutol and, as you may have guessed, is a more or less distant cousin of
THCVfrom
THCP and
THCJD.

What is THCB
THCB is a minor cannabinoid. It was discovered in 2019 in the same Italian laboratory that discovered THCP.
Like THCP, it occurs naturally in very small quantities (less than 0.1%) in some cannabis plants.
Molecularly, it is also very close to THCP and THCJD. In fact, the molecule is almost identical, with only the carbon side chain changing. THCB has 6 atoms, THCP 7 and THCJD 8.
Far from being anecdotal, this chain of atoms plays a major role in the molecule's interaction with receptors in the body. In short, a different number of atoms translates into
very different effects.
Effect of THC-B
Before discussing the effects of THCB, it is important to remember two things:
Firstly, cannabinoids entail individual experiences, which vary from one person to another and from one product to another. Secondly, the effects we're going to talk about are not attested by any studies, they're simply based on our own experience and the opinions of our customers.
With that out of the way, let's talk about THC-B. This cannabinoid can cause
a psychoactive effect in small doses. As with THCP, this "high" is characterized by a
a feeling of euphoria, relaxation and well-being.
It can also cause an increase in brain activity, with some people experiencing
more creativity and energy.
It may also modify appetite and distort perception.
While these effects are pleasant on the whole, it's important to remember that this is a powerful product, different from the usual CBD.

THCB synthesis: a safe operation?
With its low concentration in its natural state, THCB cannot be grown naturally like CBD. It requires laboratory production before being added to flowers and resins.
Like many other
CBD derivatives THCB is produced by terpenylation. This involves selecting a terpene with the molecular characteristics we're interested in, and reacting it with another whose molecular structure is complementary. The chemical addition of the two results in THCB.
As far as the safety of this operation is concerned, we can state without a shadow of a doubt that it is safe as long as it is carried out correctly.
In fact, it is one of the chemical processes used in the manufacture of a wide range of products, from foodstuffs to pharmaceuticals. It has been known and used for a long time.
Nevertheless, there may be a margin for error, and some manufacturers and wholesalers do not hesitate to depart from good practice in order to increase their margins. Make sure you buy these products from a trusted retailer.
THCB: is it legal?

Medical applications for THCB?
As you can probably imagine, there are relatively few scientific studies on THC-B. Those we have found are preliminary studies, which means they have been carried out on mice. THC-B has not yet been tested on humans.
Nevertheless, three studies conducted by three different laboratories in 2020 looked at THC-B. Compiling the results, it seems that THCB could find applications in :
- Reduces the sensation of pain thanks to its analgesic effects
- Treating anxiety and depression
- Treatment of certain neuroleptic disorders such as epilepsy
Although these medical applications look promising, many more tests are needed to ensure that they have no harmful effects on human beings, and that they have no medium- or long-term effects.
