cannabis fields

On Saturday September 16, the medieval Châteaux in the village of Cherveux, near Niort in the Deux-Sèvres region, will be the setting for the first edition of the national hemp festival .

On the program for this 1st national hemp festival: exchanges, celebrations and culture, with contributions from professionals, industry players and hemp experts. All these speakers will be on hand to enliven the day and promote the use of hemp in construction, well-being, textiles and food.

Cherveux "Hemp capital

Hemp is a plant with multiple properties that has accompanied the development of human civilizations since the dawn of time. Before the twentieth century and the advent of the cotton monopoly, hemp was an integral part of the lives of many French farmers working for a wide range of industries.

Guillaume Dumoulin, co-organizer of the event, explains that the commune of Cherveux takes its name from this plant, which was once flourishing in the area. In the past, many farmers in the Deux-Sèvres region grew hemp to supply the rope-making factories of Rochefort. It's in honor of this history and tradition, which has now faded, that the organizers have decided to organize this day.

A day to discover ...

The Hemp Festival will be an opportunity for visitors to discover producers who have come from all over France to present their hemp-based products and creations.

Norwegian hemp casseroles, hats, itinerant bookshops, jeans tailors, biodynamic cultivation, oil, mustard, paste, cosmetics and CBD producers, as well as zinc workers and Tiny House builders - in all, some 30 exhibitors will be sharing their trades, innovations and uses of hemp.

You'll discover all the applications and benefits it can bring in many fields.

Speakers from a wide variety of fields , including agriculture, technology, medical research and construction, will be taking the floor throughout the day.

Speeches and discussions will focus in particular on the development, structuring and prospects of hemp in terms of concrete application and regulation in each field and in general.

You'll be able to meet Thomas Dossus, Senator for the Rhône, who will be taking part in the event. A specialist in circular economy issues and regional planning, he worked on the drafting of a resolution voted in the Senate in 2022 on the development of hemp-based economic sectors.

A day to celebrate ...

It's the perfect opportunity to get together and celebrate this beautiful plant, its benefits and the many possibilities it offers, over a good hemp craft beer.

The first Fête du Chanvre lacks the start of a new tradition that's destined to be repeated every year.

A veritable hemp village will be set up in the idyllic setting of the medieval Château de Cherveux. On-site catering and refreshment stands will feature the famous serrated leaf and its seeds, which can be seasoned to fill the stomachs of young and old alike.

... on the occasion of Heritage Days

As the first Cherveux Hemp Festival takes place during the Heritage Days, the more curious and medieval history buffs can also take the opportunity to visit the Château de Cherveux . The mythical foundations of this ancient castle are said to have been laid by the mysterious fairy Mélusine. During your visit, the Château will share its history with you, and you'll be taken through the great moments and wars that have marked French history.

Don't hesitate to sign up for the tour and consult the day's program.
