Whether you're a CBD enthusiast or a connoisseur of the world of legal cannabis, you've probably already heard of the "Haze" family.

This is a particularly renowned genetic family throughout the world, which has made its mark on history with big names such as Super Royal Haze andAmnesia . But beyond these stars, the Haze family story is above all the result of a happy coincidence.

Interested in this story? Want to know more about some of the biggest names in the legal cannabis world? In this article, we reveal everything you need to know about these strains!

The history of Haze: between chance and uncertainty

The origins of Haze

The history of the cannabic Haze family dates back to the 1960s-1970s. It is said to have originated in Santa Cruz, on the west coast of California, the birthplace of Cali Weed.

The first hybridization of this family's seeds is said to have been carried out by the famous "Haze Brothers", R. and J. Haze. According to legend, the two brothers had fun crossing several landraces in their possession: varieties that were very popular in the Hippie Trails era, such as Colombian Gold, Mexican Sativa, Thai Sativa and Indian Sativa.

This is how, almost by chance, they discovered one of the varieties that would give rise to one of the world's most famous cannabis families.

The arrival of Haze in Europe

Gaining in popularity in the United States, Haze is said to have reached Europe, taking root in the Netherlands in the years following its creation.

The mystery remains, however: no one really knowshow the variety arrived in Amsterdam. There are many myths about it.

One of them attributes the introduction of these flowers in Europe to the famous founder of the Seed Bank of Holland, Nevil Schoenmakers, who is said to have obtained the seeds directly from the Haze Brothers in 1969. He is also credited with the famous Nevil's Haze.

Another version credits Sam "the Skunkman", the brilliant breeder behind Skunk #1 and inventor of the Static Sift extraction process. Sam, whose real name is David Watson, is said to have arrived in the Netherlands with several thousand seeds in his suitcases.

Finally, a third hypothesis suggests that the Haze Brothers themselves brought their seeds to Europe, without an intermediary.

Whatever the case, one thing is certain: Haze arrived in the Netherlands in the 1970s and 1980s, where it was perfected and hybridized to give rise to the legendary varieties we know today.

One family, shared characteristics

A complex culture

The flowers in this family are not the easiest to grow: they require special care and attention. According to some legends, their genealogy was so difficult to cultivate and maintain that they almost became extinct.

What's more, their flowering period is particularly long. It lasts between 12 and 16 weeks, while some varieties produce flowers in as little as 6 weeks. Their yield is also more moderate than that of most sativa-dominant hybrids.

Despite these constraints, the genetics have been preserved because of the exceptional quality of these flowers, their emblematic, flavorful aromas and, of course, their powerful effects.

Typical flavors

Haze is renowned for its complex aromatic profiles and pronounced flavours. They generally reveal dominant spicy and woody notes, often accompanied by hints of incense and pepper.

Most varieties complement this bouquet with herbaceous accents, citrus notes, damp earthy scents, and sometimes even sweet, floral hints.

Their fragrance is often described as rich, persistent and instantly recognizable, a real pleasure for connoisseurs and amateurs alike.

Powerful effects

As pure sativas that can reach over 25% THC in their American and Dutch versions, flowers from the Haze family are often described as stimulating, creative and euphoric.

The CBD version of Haze is also renowned for its powerful, balanced profile.
Easily 20-25% CBD, these flowers provide a deep soothing and euphoric sensation, making you feel light and relaxed.
