Alongside Cali weed and Haze, this genetic family includes some of the biggest names in the industry , such as the famous OG Kush and Candy Kush.
But do you know its history, its origins, its specific characteristics, or even which varieties are the tastiest and most potent in this family? After reading this article, you'll be an expert on Kush.
The history of Kush begins in the mists of time. The first specimens from which Kush originated are what are known as landraces. These are varieties that grow naturally without having undergone any genetic modifications by human hands.
This landrace takes its name from its place of origin: the Hindu Kush, a mountain range reaching heights of between 2,000 and 4,000 meters, straddling Afghanistan and Pakistan, in the extension of the western Himalayas.
It was through the Hippie Trails of the 1960s and 1970s, convoys of cannabis enthusiasts traveling the world, that the strains that would give rise to Kush were discovered. A few breeders from Canada, the United States, and the Netherlands took an interest in these plants and took some seeds back with them, which were cultivated and began to circulate on the black market.
However, it wasn't until several years later that Kush strains achieved the success they enjoy today. It was in California, a land of renowned breeders and cannabis experimentation, that the first and one of the most famous strains in the family was born: OG Kush.
At the same time, fueled by constant exchanges, Kush strains also developed in the Netherlands, in the semi-legal scene. The Kush family then underwent numerous hybridizations, becoming one of the most internationally recognized strains.
The many variations of Kush all have their own specific characteristics. THC and CBD levels vary, but their identity nevertheless shares common characteristics.
Kush strains are characterized by an aromatic profile in which myrcene, β-caryophyllene, humulene, and α-pinene are the most dominant terpenes, giving them a very distinctive aroma.
It has earthy notes, with woody and spicy nuances, sometimes varying towards diesel notes and a certain lemony acidity.
They generally have a thick, enveloping, and powerful aromatic bouquet, even when they have more fruity or sweet profiles such as Banana Kush or Candy Kush.
With their indica profile, Kush strains are not the best choice for parties and activities. On the contrary, they are more likely to accompany you to your sofa or into a deep sleep.
The effects of Kush strains are generally characterized by deep relaxation, both mental and physical, with a soothing, cocooning effect. Some people attribute very good effects to them against pain, stress, insomnia, and other sleep disorders.
Derived from the same mountainous landraces, the flowers have a number of characteristic features that stem directly from their adaptation to harsh climates: stocky, compact flowers with dark colors, orange pistils, and above all, a thick layer of trichomes that protect them from the cold, wind, and UV rays.
This characteristic, which is useful for resin extraction, explains the long tradition of hash production in the Himalayan regions, as well as the many types of hash that originate from Kush strains.
As you know, in France, as in most other European countries, you won't find the same Kush strains as in certain US states or Amsterdam.
Instead, we have completely legal varieties of CBD flowers with a THC content of no more than 0.3%, but whose terpene bouquet has been preserved and which now have a CBD content of around 10 to 20%.

We begin, of course, with the most famous of all, the first variety developed from landraces originating in the Hindu Kush: OG Kush. Even today, there is some doubt about the meaning of "OG," which some believe stands for Original Gangsta Kush and others for Ocean Grown Kush, although opinions tend to agree on the latter option.
This variety is recognizable by its fairly dark green color, but above all by its thick layer of trichomes and forests of pistils, which make it the true star of the family.
Of course, as the first of the Kush strains, it releases the powerful, deep, and captivating aromas characteristic of Kush. Its scent is woody, earthy, and complex, nuanced with hints of diesel, spices, and pepper, counterbalanced by a slight lemony acidity.
Nevertheless, some may also detect floral, tangy, and slightly sweet notes.
Here too, OG Kush lives up to the family's promises: its typical terpene bouquet, indica genetics, and 20% CBD content make it a perfect prototype for a CBD flower that promotes relaxation and calm, providing both physical and mental relaxation and helping to soothe the body and mind.
Orange Kush is one of those strains that we really recommend trying. A cross between Orange Bud and OG Kush, it offers all the power of Kush, softened by the floral, almost sweet side of Orange Bud.
Recognizable by its numerous bright orange pistils, it has a good layer of pollen, worthy of one of the heirs of the Kush family.
This variety is so popular partly because of its delicious, captivating flavors. The initial notes balance earthy and tart flavors. Deep, subtle aromas are prolonged by floral touches and hints of pine that linger on the finish.
This is the perfect variety for those who love deep, complex flavors.
While its aromas are complex, its effects can be summed up in one word: relaxation. With a relatively high CBD content for a CBD flower and its indica genetics,Orange Kush the perfect flower for an evening of tasting, relaxing on the sofa.
A cross between Blue Dream, known for its sweet and fresh aromas reminiscent of candy and red fruits, and OG Kush. The description alone is enough to whet your appetite, and we can assure you right away: Candy lives up to its promise.
Its genetics are recognizable at a glance: its buds, which are rather large, are a beautiful deep green and feature a good amount of attractive russet-brown pistils.
As a worthy heir, Candy Kush has deep and complex aromas. It has an earthy and powerful initial taste, which lingers with much sweeter and more delicate notes, giving an overall effect reminiscent of brown caramel or chestnut, fir, or heather honey.
