Drying, manicuring and curing: the refining steps

After cultivation (indoor, outdoor or grenhouse) and hand-picking, we begin the refining phases. These are often the stages that make all the difference between a professional product and a cheap one.

Thanks to their expertise, their perfect knowledge of each variety and their thorough mastery of these steps, our CBD farms are able to produce flowers of Gorilla Glue of the highest possible quality.

Drying

This stage is more complex than it seems. It is essential to perfectly control the lighting, humidity and temperature inside the drying room in order to obtain the best quality. Drying too quickly, at too low a humidity, alters the aromas and taste of the flowers, and can degrade the cannabinoids. Conversely, drying too slowly, in a room with too much humidity, leads to the development of mold and fungus, which also alters the potency and flavor of the flowers.

Depending on the variety, our drying process lasts around 15 days. It is divided into several phases during which the temperature and hygrometry of the room vary delicately so that our feet dry gently.

Manicure

Manicuring involves cutting away the non-resinous leaves that grow between the flowers. This can be a time-consuming process. It requires a great deal of dexterity and attention to detail. Scissors and heads must be handled with great care to avoid removing pollen and resin from the flowers.

Our teams manicure the flowers, one by one, entirely by hand. In the end, our flowers are as clean and beautiful as a freshly cut diamond.

Curing

Curing is the final stage. It's also one of the most important. This is the time when the flowers mature and develop their finest aromas.

The heads are placed in an airtight, opaque container to protect them from light. These containers also enable us to perfectly control humidity and temperature. Our flowers are exposed to an ideal humidity level of between 40% and 60% and a perfect temperature of around 21°C.

Our curing process generally lasts between 2 and 6 months. It has two main aims:

Firstly, the decomposition of the chlorophyll contained in the heads. Chlorophyll contains magnesium, which gives a strong, bitter taste. We reduce the amount contained in the flowers so that they can reveal the full complexity of their aromas.

Next, curing is used to perfect the drying process and achieve a precise level of humidity. In this way, our flowers acquire the perfect texture and consistency.

Eat quality flowers: they're better and safer!

We pay particular attention to the refining stages, because if they are not carried out according to the rules of the art :

  • Heads lose their color and aroma
  • There is a loss of pollen and terpenes (terpenes are aromatic molecules produced naturally by plants).
  • This can pose a real danger to consumers (mold and fungus growth...).

As you can see, our mastery of drying, manicuring and curing naturally gives our CBD flowers their beauty, potency and much-appreciated taste.
